Comics Are My Religion: Phantom Stranger Podcast with A. David Lewis

Welcome to Comics Are My Religion, a look at theology through the lens of comic books. There are some basic ground rules about engaging in respectful dialog about religion in this column. The column below may have spoilers for books you might not have read, so be warned!

The Phantom Stranger has a long and varied history in the DC Universe. But in the New 52 Universe, in "Phantom Stranger" #0 by Dan Didio and Brent Anderson, his origin has been explicitly tied to a religious and biblical story. This is perhaps the closest a mainstream comic has come to making Judeo-Christian characters legitimate players in a fictional universe. What does this mean theologically? What does this mean for comics?
This month, we're back in podcast form, and Dr. A. David Lewis joins me again to discuss the new Phantom Stranger's origin and the ramifications of who he is to the larger Christian mythology in comic form.

If you have questions or feedback on the podcast, comment below or visit us at the ComicAttack.net Forums under the Comics Are My Religion Thread.

NEXT MONTH: We'll play "Stump the Priest!" Toss me your difficult questions involving religion and/or comics. You can do so on the forum, by e-mail, or Twitter.
